How to write a sales page (with sweetness)
Selling Sweetly
Most of us didn’t get into business so that we could be salespeople. We do what we do for love. And because we think it’s important work. And because we want to help people. The sales part feels so…. uncomfortable. If only we didn’t have to bother with it, right?
What if we could make the sales part of your business something that didn’t feel like sales (because it wasn’t, really)? What if we could turn it into more helping? What if there were a way to approach it that could feel really good? I think there is.
Although I use the word “marketing” around here, I think of myself as a helper and a communicator. A connector. Not a marketer exactly, not someone who tries to push you into buying stuff. What I want is to help others put together the right words for their right clients. That’s where the magic happens. The connection.
Like you, I’m sure, I see lots of “sales pages” online. You sign up for a newsletter or special report or webinar and then you land on a mailing list and, sooner or later, you’ll be pitched something. And that’s okay – especially if you’re interested in what you’ve been receiving – but if it’s one of those high-pressure, flashing arrow, you-must-buy-this-now pages, it can feel kinda gross.
Pages like that don’t respect the natural progression of a relationship. And while they might hook some, it’s not a sustainable way to sell. Because if I buy something because I felt pressured into it, I’m not going to recommend it. I might even become resentful. Sales will fizzle.
That’s why I wrote Selling Sweetly; it’s a roll-up-your-sleeves guidebook to help nice business owners write sales pages that don’t make them feel pushy.
Your book is a work of genius- I love it. It’s finally giving me a way to express what’s been inside but which none of the other sales letter courses were able to elicit.
I absolutely love how I feel empowered by your workbooks, and all the lovely words you put out into the world. Pink Elephant has become an invaluable resource for me, and the growth of my business.
The Selling Sweetly workbook is absolutely wonderful and I know it is going to help hundreds of entrepreneurs grow their own businesses – Love it!
I WANT you to make money. And shamelessly!
You need to make money so that you can keep doing the wonderful thing you do in the world. It’s essential. But following some template that doesn’t feel like you isn’t going to help you sell ~ not in a way that will bring you the clients you deserve. Sweetly Selling is like a template in that I’ve outlined the necessary content pieces you need to include but it’s unlike a template in that your content will be completely unique. The exercises are designed so that no one else could end up with a page anything like yours.
Selling can be effortless.
Through my career, I’ve ended up in lots of sales and marketing workshops and classes. I’ve been told many times over how to “close the sale.” I’m sure you’ve heard all the rules too. You’ve read sample scripts. And you’ve seen the sales pages (and infomercials) with those “hurry, hurry” special offers. But if those approaches have never felt like something you could do, you’re not alone. And you don’t have to. They may work for people with those personalities selling to people who want to be told what to do – but those folks really aren’t the majority.
I do 95% of my sales for Pink Elephant through my website – through sales pages. Either clients purchase directly (in the case of Pink Elephant Academy for Entrepreneurs) or they schedule a service (through Pink Elephant Creative). It’s because of the way the products and services are explained that people feel confident that it’s something they’d like or not. I don’t have to convince anyone. Thank goodness! Because that would feel like work.
Your website can do the selling for you, too.
Selling Sweetly isn’t a book you put your feet up and read. It’s a guidebook, full of exercises. At the end, you’ll have written your own sales page (even if you don’t think of yourself as a writer!). It includes:
- the 12 content “buckets” every effective (and sweet) sales page needs
- a series of quick exercises that break the writing down into really easy little bites ~ you won’t have to think about the answers… you’ll just know (and that will feel fun!)
- sample sales pages by other entrepreneurs like you, with commentary from me ~ you can see how others handled exactly the same exercises
- how to ask for (and get) really great reviews from your clients
- advice on laying out your sales page for optimal readability
How to use the workbook
Effective sales pages, by their nature, are content-rich. They should feel like half of a caring conversation. As such, they will likely take longer to write than any other page on your website. (And given they will generate most – or all – of your revenue, they deserve that investment of time.) Take a break at the half-way point to eat something delicious, but other than that, if you can, stay in the flow. Doing so means you’ll have yourself a brand new, awesome sales page in a single morning, afternoon or evening (whenever you’re at your most productive).
When you download your book, mark your writing time in your calendar right away. And also plan a reward. It’s hard work being self-employed. You’re saving a lot of money by doing this writing yourself ~ make sure to spend a little of those savings on something special. Dessert somewhere elegant, or a half-hour of reflexology. Or both, of course. Please make your pleasure a priority in this process.
Who is the workbook designed for?
Selling Sweetly is for small business owners who:
- are launching a new service package or info-product (webinar, e-book, workshop, etc) ~ or who already have something like this in existence but it’s not selling as well as they’d like
- just aren’t sure where to start when it comes to figuring how to write an effective sales page that doesn’t sound like everyone else’s
- have a clear picture of who will most appreciate what they have to offer
- like the adventure of writing, even if they wouldn’t call themselves Writers necessarily and even if sometimes writing feels hard
“YOU are BRILLIANT. This is another workbook masterpiece. It gave me the framework to use both sides of my brain (and playfully, I might add) and get results quickly. I’ve made two sales pages and I’m SO pleased with them.
I feel excited, energized and ecstatic that I had an easy method to create my sales pages. Both of these have been in the works (by works, I mean creative stuff juicing around in my brain with no clue of how to put structure around it) for 3 months or more. These went together in several days. I finally found my groove–thanks to your wonderful Selling Sweetly workbook.
“Tired of the old advice on how to write a sales page, I fell in love with Selling Sweetly as soon as I heard about it. I love how easy Carrie has made writing a sales page to be, with two step-through-it exercises and excellent questions that get you thinking and feeling about the people you most want to reach – your customers. Simple, powerful and just brilliant!”

I ADORE this workbook! It’s such a beautiful take on writing sales pages. It was effortless to put my sales page together – such a 180 degree difference from following more “traditional” sales page advice! I’m so glad our paths have crossed!
“Carrie’s workbook, Selling Sweetly, gave me exactly what I needed! For my first year in business, I thought I was supposed to be as concise and to-the-point as possible when selling my services. And, in all honestly, I felt terrified to sell in a vulnerable and authentic way. I realize now, that I was trying to promote my business while hiding out as much as I could. As a result, my sales pages came across as lifeless and cold rather than with the warmth, light, and heart that I longed to convey. The beauty, guidance, and encouragement contained within Selling Sweetly gave me the permission I needed to truly show up! It has helped me embrace my inner salesperson and my own worth with a lot more grace and confidence. I feel so happy with what I have created. I am proud to point people to my sales pages now and feel certain that they convey the essence as well as clear descriptions of the services I am offering. Thank you, Carrie!”
“I just love Selling Sweetly. I can’t believe how easy it was to write a sales page using your questions and my answers. Even though I’ve taken all kinds of webinars and read so much on the topic, I was having trouble putting one together. Actually, I think I may have read too much about it all; the details were really bogging me down. Thank you so much.”
